Stefano Oldani caresses the triumph in Carnago and Márton Dina sets a great World Mountain Bike

News · 1 September, 2019

XCO World Championships: Mont-Saint-Anne (48.8 km)
48° G.P. Industria e Commercio Artigianato Carnaghese (164,8 km)

The Lombard Stefano Oldani caressed again that victory that he has caressed so many times this season with a second place this Saturday in the 48th edition of the G. P. Industria e Commercio Artigianato Carnaghese, held in the town of Varesina Carnago on a course of 164.8 kilometers resulting from the eight laps that had to complete the so-called Circuit of Seprio, 20.6 km. The victory went to his compatriot Francesco Baldi (Tre Colli).

Davide Cassani and Marino Amadori, coordinator and technical director of the Italian team, respectively, had summoned three of the Italian riders of the Kometa Cycling Team for this U23 event promoted by the Carnaghese Cycling Society. In addition to Oldani, Antonio Puppio and Michele Gazzoli also took part in this race.

Several were the leaks that developed in the first few laps, without a team that clearly controlled their dispute. Antonio Puppio was part of a movement of five cyclists in which the Italian team rode with three riders (Puppio, Matteo Sobrero and Alexander Konychev) “We were on the run from the beginning to the second step at the finish”, he explains. Oldani attacked on a steep slope during the penultimate lap, leaving with Russian rider Savva Novikov and shortly after catching up with the three riders who were leading the race at the time: Baldi, Flavio Tasca (Work Service) and Enrico Salvador (Northwave),

“On the last steep slope I launched an attack, but I couldn’t make room. I was very controlled and in the last three kilometers there were a series of attacks that I managed to neutralize. In the end, with 300 metres to go, Francesco Baldi started, took 50 metres and I wasn’t able to catch him”, explains the Italian. “The truth is that it’s a second place that tastes bad, because all year long I’ve been very close to victory and once again I’ve been close. I’ve worked very well all year, but that victory doesn’t come. But there are still races left and we are going to keep trying, as always”.

In Canada, for his part, and changing the road bike for the mountain bike, the Hungarian Márton Dina competed with his selection in the absolute Cross Country (XCO) of some world championships in which the Swiss Nino Schurter won for the eighth time in his career, fifth consecutive. Dina finished in the thirty-first position, 5:40 behind the Swiss gold medal and two positions behind an Olympic bronze medal like the Spanish Carlos Coloma.

“After a terrible trip, I felt good. The first training on the circuit was a little crazy, because I hadn’t touched the mountain bike in four weeks. But day after day I felt faster on the descents and I managed the uphill sections well,” says Márton about his first moments in Canada.

“On the road I was mentally at the top and my physical performance was also good. My goal was to finish in the top thirty, but I was also satisfied with my 31st final position. Now I want to stay in shape for the World Cup race in Snowshoe,” he concludes. The United States, on 7 and 8 September, will host the last race of this edition. “Also my full focus on the road worlds”.
